Practice reporting for law firms.

Recorded hours, work in progress, unbilled time and debtor days per lawyer and per matter, delivered weekly with a short note to the partners.

Short answer

For law firms, AI reporting reads time entries, matters, invoices and payments from your practice-management system (for example Clio, Basenet or Legalsense) and accounting package, and sends partners a weekly report on recorded hours, work in progress, unbilled time, write-offs and debtor days per lawyer and per matter, with a short written summary. ORVL builds it from €3,900 excl. VAT, with read-only access to financial data only.

The problem

Why law firms look at ai reporting.

Partners usually learn that a matter has run over budget or that a client has not paid when it is already a problem. The information is in the practice-management system, but turning it into a weekly view takes a finance person half a day.

Lawyers also under-record time when nobody checks until month-end, and unbilled work sits in WIP for months. Both are visible in the data long before they hit the profit figure.

The report reads financial fields only; it never needs the content of client files.

Clio, Basenet or Legalsense
Exact Online, Twinfield or Xero
Microsoft Teams or Outlook for delivery
Matter budget sheet

Guardrails

Where a human decides.

Lawyers' data is privileged; reporting is designed so it never touches it.

Access limited to time, billing and payment fields, no documents or notes
Per-lawyer figures only to partners and finance
No automated messages to clients about payment without approval
EU or UAE hosting and a DPA covering the processing
Measuring it

How you know it works.

Measure: days from month-end to partner report, WIP older than 60 days, and debtor days over the following quarters.

Example with assumed numbers: finance spends 5 hours a week preparing partner figures. Automating it frees about 20 hours a month; catching an over-budget matter before the client meeting may be worth more than the hours.

The example uses assumed numbers to show the method. It is not a client result or a promise.

When this is not the right build.

If your practice-management system's built-in reports already give partners what they read, add only the written summary and alerts.

FAQ

Common questions.

Will lawyers see each other's hours?

Only if partners decide so. By default per-lawyer figures go to partners and finance only.

Can it chase unpaid invoices?

It can draft polite reminders for finance to approve. Sending them automatically is a choice you make per client type.
